I don't know where you live, but in Houston, we have a place called "Pump it Up" which is, basically, a warehouse full of moonwalk-type bouncers with big inflatable slides and obstacle courses and even an inflatable basketball court. We had my son's party there and everyone (including the parents) had a blast. It may be a little too young, but maybe not, my son is a bit younger, but I think 12-year olds would still like it.

1) (girls) Go retro! Have the girls dress in poodle skirts and have them go to a hair salon ;)

2) (guys) Pirate-themed: Have the boys wear pirate...stuff...

3) (girls) Murder Mystery dinner: have the girls dress up, create a spript and plot or buy one at a party store/online, and serve era-appropriate lunch (such as cucumber sandwiches for the victorian era)

4) ice skating outside or at an indoor rink

5) (girls) tea party

6) go somewhere where you have had a date, like bowling, movies, etc.

I hope I helped =] good luck!

My family thought i was nuts, but when I was nine and my mother asked me what kind of birthday party I wanted, I said I wanted a Green Party. (it was my favorite color) So, everything was green. Drinks, clothes, napkins, plates, balloons...you get the idea. it was actually pretty cool!
