Well the founder of Chicago Defender is John Abbott. The school is Abbott elementary School.
He did alot of cool things before the Martin Luther King days. Very cool.
If you ever get a chance, check out Bring in the Funk, Bring in the Noise. It's a really cool tap dancing show with cool beats and drums made by Savion Glover. If it's not in your town, try and find a liver video DVD of this cool show.
