the best way to find out is go to usps.com and click on calculate postage. and do the same on fedex and ups. that way you will know for sure which is cheapest

Actually there won't be tons of difference, package shipment competition if fairly feirce, which means prices are competitive. Most likely though the cheapest will be post office, 3rd class or parcel post. If it is printed material they have a book rate.

U.S, Postal Service Parcel Post -- fairly quick and reliable. IF it will fit, they also have FLAT RATE Priority Mail boxes available . . . around $8. and it gets there in 2-3 days. Also, if it's books, magazines, etc., you can send it Book Rate, also known as Media Mail -- VERY VERY CHEAP but slower.

if you can get someone who is flying to Hawaii to carry the box with them (8 lbs is not much), it would be free. now that's cheap.

I would say UPS. We've shipped to Kauai UPS and it didn't take long for them to get the package either.
