How's this. Growing up I never went to the dentist, my mother never took me as a child. yet at the same time she's had a ton of dental work done: crowns, fillings, re-crowning, re-filling, etc.
and yeah, at the same time I know i'm a selfish bastard

Can't think of any selfish thing someone else has done, but I'm aware of the fact that I've been selfish about a lot of things and I'll be the first to admit to it when I am.

I am not a selfish person, but the things I hate most is the millionaires that can just pass by those in desperate need, without even doing as much as asking if they need help, they don't even have to drop a buck, but they also can't even take a minute out of their busy lives to lend a hand, personally I think that is as selfish as it gets.

There are probably millions of worse selfishness stories, but this one is the one that touched me most.
There was a famous picture, taken in southern Sudan in 1993, which shows a starving Sudanese toddler too weak to get to a food center, with a vulture watching over him.
The picture was so haunting that it won the 1994 Pulitzer award, but the child pictured on it died soon after it was taken.
Photographers and journalists were always told not to intervene in civil conflicts or with refugees, out of fear of different illnesses or just general safety. But Carter regretted not helping that Sudanese girl and taking a picture of her instead. He regretted becoming famous by taking a picture of a girl that died because of the world's unwillingness to help her.
In the end, the guilt was so huge that he commited suicide.
All because he took a picture, instead of helping her.
It's a story of collective selfishness, and it always haunts me.

My wife is totally selfish. After she had done the dinner, washing up put the kids to bed, mended the shed, done the ironing, walked the dog and gone to the off licence for me while I was watching a film, she had the cheek to say no when I asked her for a bacon sandwich whilst she was cleaning out the toilet. I hope she never askes me for a favour.

I knew of a father that bought a new truck every year and didnt buy his children clothes or food. All of his children looked shabby and needy all through childhood. Yes, I can be selfish. Im not proud of it but I dont like to share my cans of soda with anyone.

Oh, yes. I have seen it.
My older brother had to play poker, and sent my mother and my other brother out of the house, on a snowy evening, for three hours. BUT the game never occurs, as the snow was too thick for the other players to get to the house!

Someone I am no longer friends with didn't want to take two days off of work to be in her sisters wedding. The reason for this is that she didn't want to use her vacation time, she thought her boyfriend was going to propose to her and they were going to elope. Guess what, her boyfriend didn't propose, and her sister was so hurt by her sisters behavior- didn't put her in the wedding. Serves her right.
