My rat smells like sulfur. Why?

My male rat, Honey, had a big mite problem so i gave him a scrub down with kitten flea shampoo, used flea spray to disinfect his cage, and put a tiny itty-bitty dab of kitten flea medicine between his shoulders. He doesn't have mites any more but now he smells like sulfur and hes wheezing a little. Did I do something wrong?

He's a rat, cat medication will be way too strong for him and the kitty flea medication is probably effecting his breathing and especally the flea spray IN his cage. Give him another bath and clean his cage with vinegar and water, nothing more so he isn't breathing in fumes anymore.
