Starter motor?

Sounds like the starter motor bendix. Try rocking the car back and forth in gear or give the starter motor a "tap" with a hammer. Hopefully the bendix will release.

check the power cables on the starter motor, I've had the same trouble once where one of the cables had snapped off, causing the immob led to appear, but if not take the starter motor off and do a bench test to check it properly.
