Looking for areas in the uk where there are vibrant alternative lifestyle communities. egTotnes?

Am considering a move from manchester this year but would like to find a town or area where there is lots of communal activity.

I would love to leave Mancheater too!!! Take me please!!!
Try somewhere like Brighton???...........best to travel to a few places first and test the water yourself to see whether you would like that area.
Please do not let some people on this site send you somewhere you end up hating!!!!
