my computer an athlon xp 2000+ and asrock k7s8x mobo + 256mb ram need some attention!! i had 2x 256mb sticks 1 is faulty the mobo has cracks where the cpu is placed and grafix card holder is dodge (dont know how it all still works) i dont know whether to invest in to 64bit cpu and all the rest of the hardware or just upgrade this one too better ram and better mobo + athlon xp 3200 tft screen and better case please help! almost 5-6 people use it a day approx 3-4hrs each

upgrade to 64bit? or stay with 34bit and get the best ie athlon xp 3200?

How do u mean from scratch? using 34bit hardware or 64bit?

Yes, you should upgrade your system since your dimm is not quite enough for running Windows XP (minimum 256MB).
The PRC choice is under you , Athlon XP 3200 is good enough coz it alraedy got 64-bit tech. You also can adding one more bigger DIMM(512 or 1 GB) + your old 256MD RAM. This was a budget upgrade.
Although 64 bit CPU is available, but till now still little only SW/ hardware can fully support it. But don't get wrong, this CPU (Athlon) already support almost of software and will take advantage in future (64-bit SW).

it's kind of silly to upgrade to 64-bit hardware unless you have a 64-bit operating system (windows xp has a 64-bit edition, as do various versions of linux).

be aware though, that not all hardware (scanners, printers, etc.) have 64-bit drivers. so you may be without certain older peripherals should you choose to go exclusively 64-bit.
