The Grand Canyon is a full five hours drive from LAs Vegas. You take RT-93 South over houver Dam and follow that to I-40. Then go East on I-40 to Williams and then take the road to the Grand Canyon. Most of the drive, except the short piece on I-40 is on a two lane road with trucks and campers (which means you cannot go much over the speed limit which is 65-70 in most places. You can drive there and back in one day if you leave eraly morning, like about 7:00 AM and start back from the GC about 5:00 or 6:00 PM. You''' be back in Vegas by 11:00PM.

I have driven that and I always stay at/near the GC overnigbt. There are plenty of motels just outside the Park, Best Western, Quality, Ramada, etc.
