The dog is a much cooler pet. If you are picking just one, take the dog. (It is a bigger responsibility though--I assume you have thought that through).

If you have enough time, you can teach BOTH to do tricks. Although it's more challenging for hamsters.

Dogs - If you don't have time for them, you should not get it. We are talking about 15 years of his life that you have to take care of. He will be totally attached to his master. You will be emotionally attached to him as well. Dogs need a bath and you also need to clen their 'out-do'.

Hamsters - Lifespans are short. 3 years at most. So, be prepared for the shot time to enjoy being with them. Depends on what kind, you may not need to bath your hamster. Cleaning after your hamster is very easy. Just change the bedding, wipe it with wet cloth and that's done.

What you should get is a dog because there more fun. Also u can get along with them more and play with them ruff. But if you have a hamster you you can't really play with it hard or splat. And they say a dog is a mans best friend, they dont say a hamster is a mans best friend.

Ive had a hamster plenty of times and i have a dog now.... so i think from experience that you should get a dog b/c dogs are easier to take care of and when you have a hamster you have to clean their cage out every other day so it wont smell. plus dogs are so much fun to have. you can teach them tricks and they will cuddle up with you when your lonely. There are so many different kinds of dogs and only different colors in hamsters so......... GET A DOG!!!!! I promice you will love it!

my sister keeps hamsters and has two cats.....she keeps a top on her cage that the cats can not get off and if she lets her hamster run around its in a ball....plus the hamster is in a room that she can keep her cats out of when she's not home.....depending on the size of dog you get you probably could have both if you supervise them and keep the hamster out of the dogs reach......i say if you can do this get both

Dog. Hamsters will make an irritating noise at night when you are trying to sleep. you have to clean their cage once a week and that can get to be a hassle. With dogs, you can just let them out and they will do their busines, but you will have to housebreak him first.

Get a dog they can be protective and they are more interactive then a hamster. They will play whenever you want.
