The laptop that you want to purchase can either (1) have 802.11b/g device already installed on the laptop or (2) you can purchase a laptop with a PCMCIA 802.11b/g network card (external card that you can insert into the laptop). Brand names like D-Link, Linksys and 3Com provide such devices.
Either option will give you the equipment necessary to access a wireless router if one is nearby or if you have one at home. The wireless router is then connected to the high-speed modem which in turn is connected to a Internet Service Provider.
Now, whether or not the wireless router belongs to you or to someone else is another story because accessing a wireless router that does not belong you is considered illegal in various states.
If you're asking about Wireless Internet Provider, these generally targeted for the corporate users who needs convenient access to his/her corporate network. These services are quite costly and require a yearly contract.
If you're looking for general home use, you'll need
(1) a high-speed internet provider,
(2a) a DSL/Cable modem,
(2b) a wireless router
(wireless router and DSL/Cable modem can be same unit in most cases)
and (3) a laptop with wireless capabilities (built-in or PCMCIA card).

OK, first up, you don't need to go to a 'wireless internet provider', you can get a normal internet connection from any provider then just buy a wireless router yourself to make it wireless. Some providers do package deals and throw in the router for free (or cheap), but you can buy one yourself and turn any internet connection wireless. Seriously, that's the only difference, whether you've got a router in your actual house or not.
As for the laptop itself, the vast majority of new machine come with a wireless network card built in, just check the spec before you buy to make sure. You can also buy USB wireless 'widgets' that'll plug into any computer and make it wireless capable.

i think you want a laptop that has wireless built in it already. most laptops now offer it but if thats not a feature then you would have to buy a seperate wireless card for it. as for internet provider, they dont offer wireless, you need to buy a "wireless router" and connect whatever internet service provider you choose into that wireless router

First of all you need a laptop with Wi-Fi support, that is the chip that recognize wireless networks.
Second , you need a Router that is a small unit that connects to your Modem and enables wireless surfing , 3COM is one of the famous manufactures of those units.
Third and last , you will need the support of your ISP (Internet Service Provider) in order to configure your Router & Laptop
