They cannot charge you unless you are aware of them charging you they also need to have you card details before any money is taken.

No websites will give you hidden charges UNLESS there is a spot where it wants your credit card number. But make sure you scan everything first! Also, sometimes if you search for the update on Yahoo!, Google, Excite!, etc. It MIGHT have the update, also, watch out for fake sites!

downloading is very simple and more or less automatic
the place to start is with free windows updates !
you may require certain software such as firewall and antivirus.
there are good free programs out there you only have to google for the subject you want. often there is a paid version and a free version.
This is the type of company you will be looking for. check that they are reputable . goto their home-page and check that they have valid address(postal) read reviews on their products (computer mag sites) and only when you are certain you are dealing with a reputable site give any details about yourself (email etc) GOOD HUNTING

You should not be charged without your consent and some sort of payment (credit card, paypal etc). To put your mind at ease go to you service providers website (BT, Tiscali or whoever) and check it up. Before downloading go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us to get all updates for windows these include security, I also recommend reading articles on this page http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx.
Next ensure you have anti virus software installed and updated if not I suggest these free anti virus programs AVG 7.5 free from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or Avast home from http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html. Lastly if music is your thing try limewire its free from http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.
