Without a water softener, calcium will build up in the pipes. Had the same problem on a hot water line and took the union apart to pinpoint blockage. Sure enough the pipe was so blocked that no water cam through from the supply. Using hose I had water flow from the union to the tub. So..
I uses a an electricians fish tape with a small hook and kept pushing it into and pulling it out of the pipe. It was had work and when cleaned out I realized I for to turn off water supply!

Most likely, calcium deposits. Hot water pipes accumulate this kind of deposits, especially when they are a little older. I suggest you have a plumber check the entire line.
