I'm a to-be director looking for some scripts to look into to direct. Our theatre is on a substantually low budget, since it is such a small area. I would like to know a few different plays (comedy or drama) that would be good. Thanks.

Get some catalogues from the publishing houses; Samuel French, Dramatisits Play Service, etc. These catalogues will help you see what's in your budget. For example...
A cast of four requires the purchase of seven scripts. One for each actor, one for the director, one for the lighting designer, one for the stage manager. A cast of seventeen...you get the idea The catalogue is broken down into cast size.
A single unit set will take fewer materials to build than a multi unit set .The catalogue will tell how many units.
The catalogue will break down the charges for the rights to do the play.
Etc.
Happy hunting and congratulations on becoming a director! I wish you well at ti.

Inherit the Wind would be an excellent choice, but the script calls for about 30 cast members. This can be easily changed, though, as most of those 30 roles can be condensed. This show can also be done with a minimal set. Hope this helps.
