Dancing can be whatever one makes of it... it is a recreational activity... it can also be a sporting event due to competitions... It is a leisurely group activity or it can be as private as you want it! My daughter is now in Ballroom Dancing... she practices 3-5 times a week and has group night once a week, as well as her private couple lesson for the rest of those practices... She and her partner are preparing for a regional competition next month! It is more like a sport then, but is one of the more enjoyable types of sports for me to watch! It can be as much of a workout as most any other sport and is just as demanding on the body!
I believe it is a beautiful sport where both male and female can work together and have lots of fun while also performing their routine! It is something that is you have to be committed to in order to do well in .. so I would say it is a sport!

I'd consider dance an art form rather than a sport. Sports usually entail games or contests with strict rules governing play. While dance does require coordination and skill like sports, there is generally no winner. Dance can also follow rules, but it can also be freeform. It is an expression of feelings rather than a contest.

Nope, I consider Ice skating and Gymnastics sports, because they require athletic ability, but Dance I would consider an art because it is just plain dancing. Gymnastics and Ice skating are not only dancing, but jumping/flipping so they are much more athletic.

Sure, it involves movement and precision. Dancing with the stars shows that their is already a fan base so why not make it a sport.

Yes,
It is fun, uses lots of energy, burns calories, can be done in a competition, uses special techniques/moves, requires discipline and practice.
Hey, it's not in the Yahoo! Answers Sports Category ;-/
