I have 2 crayfish and just yesterday I got 5 guppies for my tank. Today I came back and one of my guppies (the one with the longest tail) was all broken up and half gone and it seems pretty clear to me that one of the crayfish got a hold of it. I was scared of just that because I read online that crayfish have been known to eat small fish but I have small crayfish. I am removing the crayfish tomorrow but I was curious as to how long the fins/tail take to grow back? Mine had a beautiful tail and I really want it back. Please let me know if you had a fish with half a tail and it grew back.

This happened to my fish too. It takes a few months to regrow. Actually her fins are still in the "re-coloring" process. Don't worry about it too much.

it takes quite a long time a few months before its completely normal. you can see bits grow back -- they grow back white and then color up. it helps if you put some melafix in the water -- it works kind of like antibacterial wash for the fish so it helps fins grow back faster. a better diet of more protein (like frozen blood worms) helps too.

Add some melafix, keep the water quality good, and it should grow back in a few weeks.
