If I can get away with it, I get my husband to to it - but if not then I spray it and leave it over night with a pan of water and soda .
If the racks are especially grungy then I clean it with soft grade sand paper works great.
Is your mother - in - law coming?

Cleaning the Oven
Materials and Ingredients:
Ammonia
Baking soda
White vinegar
Glass pans (different sizes)
Boiling Water
Sponge
Steel wool
Preheat oven at 200-degrees for 15 minutes.
Fill a shallow glass pan with approximately 1" of ammonia. Be sure to use a glass pan only.
Place the glass pan on the top shelf of the oven.
Take another glass pan -- a longer one this time -- and place it on the bottom shelf, then pour in 1" of boiling water (figure A).
Close the oven door and leave for at least two hours and overnight if the oven is heavily soiled.
The next morning, make a paste with baking soda and white vinegar to wipe out the oven.

Sorry I dont know how to clean enamel oven specifically.
You can get sprays but think they are harmful. Bicarbonate of soda is a good natural cleaner but not sure about using it on enamel.
You can even get people in to clean it professionally for a reasonably small price.
Think its called oven u.

i do the inside with oven cleaner, but all the metal trays and stainless steel runners, I leave them overnight in a plastic container(Storage boxes really from B&Q) in a solution of caustic soda and water, you must however keep away children and animals, and wear gloves, thus the reason for a storage box, it has a tight lid so no accidents can happen, but the silver bits grill pans etc, will come up brand spanking new, it never fails, and then you just have to keep on top of the inner shell,
it saves a whole load of hard work, and then I just hose them down with garden hose, and put them back in gleaming.

I like 2 products for quick & easy oven maintenance: "Murphy's Oil Soap" & "No Fume Oven Off".
>If the oven is a little dirty: Murphy's seems to work b/c it cuts through oil w/ very little effort. This is also usefull for the stove top and over oven fan/light fixture where greese builds up.
>If it is really dirty: Oven Off works fast, kinda like "Scrubbing Bubbles" does on tubs. Follow the directions on the spray can.

set oven tempt to 150 and let heat for 15 minutes, turnoven off and spray with oven cleaner or Clorox clean-up; when using clorox clean-up let stand for 10 minutes and with a clean dry cloth wipe residue away; then with warm water and another clean cloth wipe clean; if there is burnt on spills you might need to repeat serveral times for Clean-up to disolve. Take oven racks out before hand and lay on a layer of newpapers and spray racks with clean-up- You'll be amazed how quickly grease and buildup melt away, then wipe residue off with warm water and dry clean cloth.

Since I get light headed from oven cleaner I put a bit of baking soda in a bowl of warm water and use a rag dipped in that to scrub my oven, then I go over it with a clean rag of water. (You wouldnt put oven cleaner in your food would you? So I dont think you should clean with it.)
