The cost of childbirth varies by hospital. Typically, any additional intervention (including pain medication, IVs, etc) is tacked onto the bill. If you do not have insurance and know which hospital you plan to deliver at (or might consider delivering at) you can call to find out their specific rates. You can mention, when you call, that you do not plan to have insurance at the time and make arrangements regarding payment. Sometimes, if you are lucky, they will give you a discount.

In addition, don't forget, the physician who delivers the baby will charge a separate fee. If you already have an OB, find out his/her fees. If the OB has a "global billing" then a routine pregnancy and delivery are usually covered in the "global billing".

Not delivering at a hospital can appear less expensive and at times it really can be less expensive, but, that depends on the mother's health. Of course, it is generally safer to give birth with trained individuals on hand (whether that person is a midwife, nurse or OB). Typically, birthing centers (outside the hospital) have a flat fee similar to the hospital. However, if complications arise at the birth center, typically, they cannot do much about it other than have you taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. At which point, you will end up paying for the birth center's fees, the doctor's fees, the ambulance fees and whatever fees you incur at the hospital.

I can't imagine not going to the hospital to have a baby. When my first baby was born 27 years ago, it was at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii. It cost us $15 a day for three days.

My daughter was born in St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa Ok with no insurance in 1983. We stayed a day and a half, I think that cost like $1500.00. I can just imagine what it must cost today.

Even if you don't have insurance, i would have my child at a hospital just in case something went wrong though. My babies health would be my first concern.

A natural birth will run you about $7000. Have a cecarian though and it could cost you around $15,000. Hospitol births are not at all necisary if you have a low risk pregnancy. If you find a good midwife
you can deliver at home for around $3500. I have a friend that has done it both ways and she will only deliver at home for now on. She said the personal experience was outstanding. And besides if anything at all is wrong with you or your baby the midwife will get you to a hospital STAT.

It's much safer to have the baby in the hospital. they know what they are doing and are there if there are any complications everything is at their finger tips. It costs anywhere from 11K to 20K depending on what hospital you go to. I wen to Hunterdon Medical in Flemington, NJ and it was 11K. It's a small hospital. But St. Peters in I believe Newark, NJ that costs arround 20K because it's set up specifically to take care of premature babies and high risk pregnancies. Obviously mu insurance covered EVERYTHING!!

I don't think I would name a baby dangerous or hospital. He's going to get teased a lot. Hope this helps!

You should have gotten insurance. It costs around $12,000. It is much safer to have a baby in the hospital. I almost had to have an emergency C-section. You never know what problems could arise.
