Yes - but being a member, my view is biased. Do I agree with every stand they take on every issue? Absolutely not! Their adversarial nature does play an important role in keeping certain parts of our government and society in line. They do provide people who might not be able to afford extended legal battles with a voice. People who are uniformed about the cases the ACLU does handle are quick to label the group as ultra liberal. If people will take the time the research the ACLU- they will find they have defended the KKK's right to freedom of speech and protest just as avidly as they have defended a pro-abortion group. So - yes - they do provide an added layer of protection of EVERYONE's rights.

They are quite possibly the single worst group that pollutes this great nation. In San Diego they sued they Boy Scouts, The Boy Scouts, and not because they wouldn't let girls in, or fags(Different topic) but over the land they use for their meeting. How in the hell can you sue the friggin' Boy Scouts? They sued the city of San Diego over a cross that is a Korean War memorial, the cross is on public land but its a War memorial. Are they so anal that they can't recognize the fact this cross honors great men and women who died in that conflict? Just because it's on public land and over 80% of the citizens of San Diego want to keep it, but no, so up-tight anti religious zealot wants it down even though it's been up for more than 40 years. And then there's that whole MAMBLA, I ask anybody how in they hell you can defend a man that wants to make love to a boy, this shouldn't even be an issue but thanks to the bleeding-heart nutjobs at the ACLU these people have rights instead of being taken out and shot no question asked. Seirously, Those are 3 things off the type of my head and there are plenty more but they disgust me to think about. SAVE THE U.S.A. DESTROY THE ACLU!!!!

They SUCK!! They are a communist cell full of anti-freedom, anti-Rights crud and should be abolished. They're the ones responsible for no prayer in schools, no 10 Commandments in public buildings, plush prison conditions, and the list goes on. The idea was good, the ACLU is not good. Not for anything and not for America.

Stupid Conservatives are often against them. They feel that equal rights only applies to Christian Whites. Smart conservatives understand that rights are for everyone and that they should be protected.

Many Liberals often appreciate the ACLU because they fight equally, no matter how offensive the group is. While they may not like Nazis, as Americans, they still have rights in this country, the same as you and I.

The American Criminal Liberties Union? They protect the rights they approve of. Occasionally, they do some real good. Usually it's a happy accident. More often, they stand up for the rights of child-molesters, terrorists, rapists, murderers etc. I'm waiting for them to champion the 2nd Amendment.

I don't agree with everything they do, but I'm glad someone is keeping the feet to the fire of the legislatures and judicial system so americans have meaningful freedoms. The very fact that they have their detractors on both sides of the fence tells me they must be doing something right.

No, I believe it began as a really useful organization, but they seem to have gotten away from their original goals.

I think that they are only there for certain Americans and fight against the rights of the whole to make a statement for certain people. They are against progress and only support those who will get their name out there...they are a huge detriment to our society

Any organization that supports NAMBLA is about as vital as my appendix.

I am not sure that they are important to America. The ACLU seems to want to stop Christians and Jews from recognizing their faith in public.
