I'm a bilingual writer. Are there more opportunities to publish writing in English than in Spanish? I feel more comfortable in Spanish, but I can write in English as well without a problem...

i would think it would depend on who your target audience was,, is your subject more directed towards spanish readers or english? depending on your subject,,if its a general one that would appeal to many,, the opportunity would be the same,,,,, the english speaking and spanish speaking population would be about equal,,,,i suggest you try to narrow down in your mind what group of people would most likely be interested in what you are writing, then see if they fall into a certain category,,,then look at what publishing opportunities you have access to,,,, talk with them concerning the matter,,,, i imagine the opportunities would vary around the world,,,,

You live in the best of both worlds. You can write in both languages…so why limit your marketing to just one audience. I, too, am bilingual (English/Spanish), and I like to read books by their original authors. If I have a choice to read Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or someone who translated for him…I definitely go for the original.

Write for both languages. Market your works internationally. Write your originals in Spanish (as you are more comfortable in that language) then write the translated version. Work with an editor and/or agent to decide where to market your work first, but keep your international rights.

It depends on your audience first of all. You can write in whichever you feel more comfortable, and then once you are in the process of getting it published, it can be translated into the other language, as well as others. People all over the world love to read good books.

I had a similar question posed before me when I migrated to this country. I wrote in my native language for years but as years pas by my knowledge of my native language started getting rusty and I acquired enough proficiency to write in English. Writing in English provided a bigger readership and more money but I aways missed the freedom of writing in my native language. Writing in ones native language is like flying while trying to write in any foreign language is like walking on a tight rope if you know what I mean. I'm seriously considering going back to writing in my native language.

English, considering that is what we speak in the united states unless you are writing it in another country.

depends entirely on what you are writing, and who you are writing for.
