I read somewhere that there should be at least 2.5 GHz. Is this true?

As far as I know, you cannot compare CPUs by looking at how fast they are, since there are many series. Take Intel as an example, there are Celeron, Pentium and the newest one, Core 2 Duo. For example, a Celeron D processor with 3.06GHz does not mean it is more powerful than the new Core 2 Duo ones. Back to the question, for gaming, it depends on your budget, since I do not know how much you got, I would recommand any CPU from Intel Core 2 Duo series. Hope this helps.

depends on the architecture - a 1.8GHz core 2 Duo E6300 will beat a 3.8Ghz pentium 4 -
so an E6300 or an E6400 should do really nicely for games

cheers

2.5GHz is below average nowadays. For high quality gaming you should have at least 3GHz or better.
