I heard that if you use chapstick, your lips actually become dependent on it, and you will have to use it more often. Is this true?

Well some people skin are different, some folks dont have to use chapstick at all regardless of the weather while others have to because their lips are dry but if you use certain vitamins which your body may be lacking then i am assuming that soon you wont need the product at all.

Perhaps it's not actually a scientifically round dependency, but perhaps the person likes the way their lips feel when chapstick is applied. I know most chapsticks don't do it for me and I have to keep putting some on but I really like Blistec's herbal answer. I immediately feel the difference and don't have to apply it as often. It has alot of great vitamins to moisturize your lips.

i think it depends upon how your lips are when not using it personally my lips have always been dry and i keep chapstick on them to keep them moist no matter what because if i let hem dry out when the skin starts getting flaky i have a bad habit of picking it off which makes thigs worse so i think the answer is yes it can for some people

I think the science out there says "no," but I believe lip balm can be an addicting thing ... or, rather, compulsive. This is especially true if you always seem to have chapped lips. If your lips are constantly being moistened (licked), then it's likely you're going to use more lip balm to counteract the chapping... case in fact, brass players are notorious for using tons of lip balm. Then you just get used to the feel of it on your lips and like it and continue to use it even if your lips aren't chapped!

I have heard this about Chapstik brand, but not other brands of lip balm. I am not sure whether it is true, but I have noticed that sometimes my lips would hurt when I didn't use the Chapstik brand lip balm, but now that I use another kind, they don't actually hurt, they just feel dry. I recommend the Neutrogena brand, and lots of water.
