I'm looking into buying myself a snowboard. I'm definitely a beginner, a girl, I usually go to a park with artficial snow, and once I'm better, I'd like to spend most of my time in the pipe. I'm thinking about this one: http://www.burton.com/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=29, but I know next to nothing about snowboarding. I'm basically looking for suggestions. Also, I have no idea whether or not I should stick with a rental until I'm better, or just go ahead and get my own.

=]

I've gone three times, almost the entire day each time, and I'm completely in love with it. I would not regret investing in this. But I might grow about another inch one of these days, if I am lucky.

if you're a beginner, you dont have to be too technical about which board you pick.. I'd recommend going to a snowboard shop, check out what they have in stock and ask for advice regarding what the best size is for you. You'll always hear that the board should be about as high as your chin, no higher than your nose, however weight definitely plays a major role in the size of your board too. Any freeride board should be great, and burton is a nice name to start on... they make some quality products.

Also, if you can help it, spoil yourself and get real good boots and bindings. When i started boarding, i got a real nice board but had no money left for boots and bindings so i just got the cheapest ones i could, and It's just not worth it. Get quality products.. You'll be much more comfortable and in-control when you're out there shredding!

A lot of the resorts have "Demo Days" where tons of different companies are out there showing off their skis/snowboards, and will let you try them on the mountain. Same thing with the pro/rental shop at the resort - many of them will have demo boards you can try out. If the resort you go to doesn't have that, take a look around at other resorts around you.

Otherwise, look for snowboard rental stores near you and see what they have that you can try out.

as someone else said above, first thing you should buy is good boots and get them pro fitted at a board shop. if its your first set up then the board and bindings could be bought off ebay for pretty cheap and you wouldn't require a really technical board for now. later when you become more advanced and/or grow you can easily upgrade to a new board

go for the feelgood or alpha as a beginner, because the lux is a good board pipe, but you need to get better on the mountain and the alpha and feelgood are good all-around boards.

You mIght want to rent for one day just to see if you like it. Then You can think about investing in a board. If you are still growing don't buy one thats too expncive Cause youll outgrow it
Have FUN!
