You need to talk to your father about this.I never went into my kid's mail,I feel that they should have their own privacy when it comes to stuff like that.If you are 16 maybe you should start looking for a small part-time job. Then you can ask your dad to open a postal box for you at the post office. She sounds like a very nosy person.Save some money in the bank,so when graduation comes around you and a good friend can be roommates and share expenses. She's going to give you hell.Good luck&take care.

Since you're a minor, she may be allowed to open the mail. Although, is she your legal guardian? If not, then maybe only your dad is allowed. Once you're an adult, it doesn't matter if you pay bills there or not, opening someone else's mail is a federal offense. Her excuse is lame and it seems like she's only trying to pry into your affairs... nice way to forge a connection there, evil stepmom! (And you can repeat that!)

If the mail is addressed to you then it is not ok. It is a federal offense to open mail not belonging to you. Tell you dad.
Good luck!

it is a violation for anyone to open us mails by any one other than the addressee, tell your dad to tell her to stop it if she doesnt, file a complaint with the post master in your town, but beware that after you do that its gonna hit the fan at home afterwards
