i know that's not really a question but i didn't really know how to properly ask... i was just wondering...how do you find out what you want to do as a career? there is nothing that really interests me out there. time is ticking and i dont know.. are there any sites or anything out there that can help me figure this out? how did you choose what you want to do, and are you confident about your decision?

I had the exact same problem. I went to community college for two years (Its a great way to postpone your decision, you get to take alot of college classes and test the water. And the quality of education is great). When it came down to it, i was intrested in just about everything in the math or science fields.

I do not know if Canada has a CC system, but i do highly reccomend it. University education undergrad isn't any better than the CC system, and it is much cheaper for a more direct student teacher relationship. It is also easier to get in to a University transfer than freshmen entry, because you have allready proven you can do college level work.
If you don't know what you want to do, i would still try to narrow it down to a broad field and take classes in that area. If you are still indecisive, look at schools and find out if there is any particular school that you fall in love with.

Thats what happened to me. I decided i wanted to go to UCSC, but had no clue about my major. Then i sat down with their major list and eliminated all those i would not do. I ended up with a list of about 10, and eventually just picked one to go with. Remember that you can always change later.

It is important to note that some majors you can change and some you cannot.
I am a Computer Science major, part of the School fo Engineering. If i do not declare before i transfer, i cannot take that major. Whereas something like math or biology you can declare any time you can finish the major. So if you are torn between two (such as a more open subject like math or biology or physics or english, vs. a more exact area like engineering or law or medical), go for the most exact of the two. You can always switch to the more general major later.

Are you in college or out of college? Think about what you do for fun and take classes about those. If you find something you enjoy, do some research at your school's career services office or website. They will be the most helpful.

I figured out that I should go to law school and get a job in a non-for-profit or lobbiest group by combining my love for politics and wanting to help people. I took a lot of classes in undergrad and realized that I was on the right track.

Are you college age? Start taking some classes. Just general stuff. Then maybe try some more specific classes, like computers, or business, cake decorating, or wedding planning. See what interests you. Then go from there.

Go talk to a college academic advisor. They will help you.

As in my case, I wanted to take the Web Master course. However that was no longer offered. So they help me and I am now taking graphics arts which also offers a web design class. In my case I already partly new what I wanted to do.

If you don't know, just go talk to them. They'll help you.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

What you like doing the best in your spare time is probably what you would like to do as a career, be it painting, sculting, writing, you can turn any of these into being a journalist, a professional painter, architect etcetera.

Don't look at careers as jobs. What do you enjoy doing? Can that become a career? If not look at the next in line thing you enjoy doing...and so on...and so fourth.
