Well, for one thing if you didn't experience misery, or bad times, then how would you know what happiness is. Happiness is all in the mind...you can be rich and unhappy and poor and happy, healthy and happy, or poor health and happy...to me it is all about positive thinking. And always think positive...don't dwell on negative things you can not change. Happiness takes work, and it's all in your head...just decide right now, at this very moment you are ready to be happy, forget the misery, you are going to be happy...smile, smiling makes you feel happy, making other's smile makes you feel happy, and if you really want to trip people out smile when people don't think you know they are looking....they will wonder what are they smiling about.....smile, think positive thoughts, don't let people bring you down...just let go and be free, free spirited, and one thing that really will make you happy is if you just do one thing a day, and it doesn't have to be big...but, make someone else feel good, compliment them, encourage them..do something for someone that doesn't even know you did it for them...simple things make you happy and doing for other's always makes you feel really good, plus remember to do nice things for yourself...whether it be just walking out in the sun, shopping, going out to eat, friends, family...you just have to think happy thoughts and laugh, laughing is also a great way to get happy...so smile, you are on candid yahoo...be happy!!!

First, consider the possibility that you may be experiencing a mental illness, such as depression, that may actually be affecting your ability to feel happiness.

Assuming that's all okay, then unhappiness is often caused by a mismatch between your expectations and what you've received in life. You can address this problem in two ways: change what you get or change your expectations. Often we don't have direct control over what we get, but if we change our expectations and start looking for the blessings and good things all around us, instead of being frustrated that we don't yet have what we want, our lives will be a lot happier.

I personally feel that it's not a bad thing to recognize that something in our life isn't what we would want it to be, as long as that can motivate us to change and correct whatever it is that we need to correct. If it's not under our control, then we can just shift focus and work on things that we can work on right now.

Happiness in your future!

Happines acheived through misery? Is that like dying to live?

I don't think so. Happiness is acheived by living in the moment and appreciating the things here and now, not dwelling on the past or a future you think might fix everything, just accepting the good in your life at the moment and doing what you can do to take control of your own life right now. It helps if you start out by faking it.

The thing is one needs to understand what real happiness is. This world is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. Only one froth of the souls come here. We are always suffering due to the 3 kinds of misery, (misery caused by natural disasters and extreme weather, misery caused by other living entities, (bugs, people, reptiles, etc.) and misery caused by the mind,) So their is no question of real happiness in this world. But one can learn the process of being equal posed in all circumstances. The quickest and easiest way is to chant the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion) go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada which gives the purpose and meaning of human life and how to get rid of all misery and become Happy forever. It works for me. See DVD The Trueman show - withJim Carry to get an idea of what I mean about the world being an illusion.

True happiness can be achieved through piety. In the Qur'an it has been mentioned over and over again, for one to be successful in this life and the hereafter, one has to believe in the Oneness of Allah (and the prophethood of Muhammad SAW) and do righteous good deeds! My personal advice: Life is a continuous struggle. If you are truly sincere to becoming a good Muslim, first you have to perform the things that are obligatory on you like praying 5 times a day, wearing the hijab, etc. Once you have established this, then you can start improving yourself to becoming a better Muslim. Now you start praying voluntary prayers, fasting days other than Ramadan, reading Qur'an more, giving charity, studying the religion. For me, even the small things make a difference, like saying Bismillah and Alhamdulillah when eating, greeting and smiling at fellow Muslims even when you don't know them, giving change to the beggars, etc. What is important in doing good deeds is consistency not really the amount of thing you do. Keep on supplicating to Allah to guide you to the straight path and continue doing the good things that you have already started, and slowly increase them. Sincerity is the key to success. Always remember to do things for the sake of Allah and according to the teachings of the Prophet (SAW). We are humans, not angels, so somehow we keep falling to sin and temptation. But we always have to return to our Almighty Creator and ask His forgiveness then follow Him. Salam

True. Happiness can only be achieved through misery. Experience of the downside of human life teaches you to appreciate the good things when you encounter them. An excess of material possessions and too easy a life only leads to misery

You have to encounter the rough to appreciate the smooth.
