My husband is getting his PhD in East Asian Studies with the intent to become a college professor. How much do college professors with a PhD earn annually, as opposed to those who do not have their PhD?

It depends upon several factors, including:

- whether he is hired as an adjunct, lecturer/instructor, or tenure-track

- whether his first job is in an urban or rural setting

- whether he will be teaching at a well-endowed (or poorly-endowed) private college or a public university

In East Asian studies, if he were to start next fall, he could expect anywhere from 35K to 60K, depending on the factors above.

ABD folks are generally not hired into the tenure-track, so their salaries would be on the lower end of that scale, again, depending on the factors above. With PhD in hand, he can expect about 40K at a small college, 45K at a state university in a rural setting, 45-60K at a state university in an urban setting (depending on the state) and 50-60K at an elite liberal arts college.

To replace right into a Professor you want a PhD, to have written loads of scholarly articles on your container, and a outdoors study interest, yet no there is not any attempt or certification with the intention to alter into one often there's a board of alternative professors who overview your artwork and choose whether or to no longer hire you.

Although this degree has done me not an ounce of good, I have attached a few links that are salary calculators that may help you out with this information. The salary all depends on the location and the experience your husband has in the industry of East Asian Studies. I wish him the best of luck!
