1. don't use the applicator it comes with.
use a VERY thin brush. just dab the brush lightly against the "stick" part of the original applicator. (but don't get too much on the brush.)
you can get super-thin, excellent quality brushes at a well-stocked art store -- i just did, and i absolutely love mine! way more variety in size & shape than a cosmetics store... they average like $2.50!!! in fact, these are so cheap, you can buy a bunch for the price of 1 at a regular cosmetics store, and experiment with different brush sizes and shapes! i love this perk. :D
2. apply as close to lashine as humanly possible
3. instead of black, consider using a black-brown or a charcoal, depending on your coloring
4. instead of liquid liner, consider mixing a powder eyeshadow with a little water, and/or using a wet brush to apply.

I personally like the bare escentuals eyeliner shadows they can become liquid when you add a little water. They are in a powder substance so it makes it easy to choose the thickness of the lines, although it's all in the BRUSH! The brush is the one that gives you the thickness of the line, they have a great brush for that!

I wear liqiud and LOVE it!! thats cause i like the dramatic look...but, truthfully there is not a way to make it look Natural besides putting a VERY lilttle like on the lash line...but even then it probaly wont work well and would probaly take forever....if you want a natural less dramatic look then you need to switch to pencil liner...
