I think they should have to be qualified for the job. This way it's not the one with the most money that wins, it's the one that knows what to expect and how to handle it. A committe should be set-up, the tests and results should be made public (with no politics involved).

If you don't think that they are qualified for the job, you don't have to vote for them.

Whether or not someone is qualified for an elected position is up to the voters and not some generic "qualification exam". In many cases, the qualifications are already laid out in either the state constitution or the Constitution of the United States. Usually, the only qualification required is a certain age, citizenship, and more votes than the other guy.

What real good would that do? Anyone can answer questions on a test and pass, however , that does not make them smart. You could have the most educated politician on the ballot and if they win, what good is smarts without common sense and strong morals? There is no test for that, and at times the most decent man/women will falter or become crooked if money is involved, happens all the time in politics.

You may be interested to know that Prsident Bush has just put politicans in charge of the civil service. In other words, the area of government where people are actually tested for qualifications has now been turned over to those who do not have them.

Great idea, yet consider:
who will write the exam?

who will print the exam?

who will grade the exam?

who will make the copies of the exam?

who will moniter the exam?

who will grade the exam?

who will post the exam scores?

who will pay for the exam?

who will live long enough for the exam to be processed?

who will govern during examination process?

Welcome to America, the home of the PROCESS
now consider how much money this will all cost the taxpayers,
someone has to pay! POLITICS 101

Yes! Many employers have adopted this and "other things" as part of their hiring practice so why not the government?!

If they did, that lying, idiot-murderer george bush would not be in office because he would surely fail a compentency test and a urine analysis!!!

If this were done in the first place, this country would not now be facing the wrath of more than a billion angry moslems worldwide!

I think if this was the policy we'd have a different president. Maybe it should be the policy...
