I used to think there was a sock monster that lived in the dryer and stole them. Now I buy mesh laundry bags with a zipper at the dollar store. They will hold about a dozen pairs of socks at a time and for some reason the sock monster is gone,I think it moved on to someone else's dryer.

The other sock is static-clinging inside another piece of clothing. Normally you put it away and don't find the other sock till you go to put that clothing on and the missing sock falls out of a trouser leg.

Cure is to use that anti-static fabric softener or a dryer sheet (like Bounce) to kill the static. Then everything comes out of the dryer separate and can be accounted for.

I think the dryer either eats them or the disolve. Here are a few tricks, they make sock rings so they stay together but I use zip laundry bags. When the kids were little I put them the bag in the wash and through right in the dryer. No more feeding the dryer.
