They have tried to make peace, several times over, and their neighbors have not gone along with it in any way. Even the faction of the Palestinians willing to talk peace have been stymied by the Palestinian people themselves by voting in the Hamas faction in elections. It is clear that the Palestinians do not want peace with Israel.

Lebanon would probably exist peacefully with Israel were it not for the presence of the Iranian/Syrian-backed Hezbollah. This radical group continues to sabatoge any efforts at peace by the Israelis, murders anyone publically opposed to them in Lebanon, and does the bidding of Iran in creating discontent in Lebanon.

With neighbors like these, Israel will probably never see peace.

The Israeli's have tried it both ways, many many times over. The soft way- asking for peace and willing to give up 97% of the occupied territories (under Ehud Barak), and military retaliation with a strong arm. Nothing seems to work- as the palestinian leaders have not prepared their people for peace with Israel... only war.

No, President Clinton tried to broker a deal ....Arafat would have gotten about 94% of his demands yet refused the deal.
