The 1980s were called the "eighties", the 1990s the "nineties", and we still refer to them as that today. But for this decade, we just say we're in the "21st century" or the "current decade".

I've heard tell of the "noughties" but that sounds too much like "nineties" (i.e. the seventies, eighties, nineties, noughties....NO) and it also just sounds stupid.

Any suggestions? And what will we call the 2010s?

I've heard "the oughts..." And 2010's will be "the tens."

Can't you find a source on HISTORICAL dates (1500's AD, 2010 BC, etc.) that refer to decades in the same fashion we call our current decades the eighties, nineties, etc.?

Has anyone else noticed that we're mostly through this decade, yet we seem to have avoided calling it anything?

But oldies radio stations of the future will have to choose... they'll be playing oldies music from the eighties, nineties, and oughts.

This decade is called the "2000's." The next dacade will be called the 2010's just like during the 20th Century, that span of time was called, the 1910's.

I live in the UK,but haven't heard it being called the noughties, but then I don't get out much....I refer to it as zero1,zero2,etc,now zero7,so I think the" Zero Years" has a ring to it!
