The dipstick on your 86, 350 should be located on the passenger side. Look close and you will see a hole in the block behind the manifold approximately center.. Hopefully for your sake the tube has pulled out. It is a tight fit in the block. However it could also be broke off.
If that is the case you have to remove the portion remaining in the block before you can install a new one. An option you do have in preference to removing the oil pan and driving it out from below is to use a tap attached to a slide hammer. In most cases you will have to remove the exhaust manifold to do this. I have a tap welded to a rod about a foot long that I use. This eliminates a lot of work as I don't have to remove anything to get the piece out. Good Luck my friend.

i think of your 350 is an ideas-blowing candidate for the project. that's the main regularly occurring engine in the international, in line with motor vehicle & motive force magazine. It has the main obtainable alternative areas, for the least money, and the main non-obligatory areas, kit, and upload-ons of any engine. it is so hard (for me) to easily say i will change only the bearings and earrings in a severe mileage engine. i think of, 'as long as i'm in right here, might as nicely replace pistons.' After that, it escalates to a clean crankshaft - a clean cam - water pump - on and on. i like new issues, so all i'm left with is the block, or maybe that grew to become into machined.
