yes midwives deliver babies. every state has different laws about midwives however. also, there are many different types of midwives.

i had a midwife and i highly recommend it. i had a very easy and uncomplicated delivery and i truly believe it had alot to do with my midwife. when my daughter was born she seemed so comfortable, she didn't even cry because midwives make the birth process less traumatic for the mother and child.

doctors delivering babies is a NEW concept. women have given birth with the help of midwives since the dawning of time.

not to say that midwives are old fashioned. most midwives will do all your prenatal care, deliver your child in a hospital, or hospital setting in case of an emergency. birth by a mid wive is very safe. some (myself included) believe even more safer then a doctor.

my midwife saw me for every prenatal visit. she was with me the whole time i was in labor (and no, she didn't baby me or whip the sweat off my forehead) but unlike most doctors, she WAS there, not just when your ready to push.

look into midwifery. it worked great for me, but it may not be what you want.

Yes...midwives deliver babies...but a good midwife knows her limits and is well trained...if she signs of distress for mom or baby...she will send them to the hospital. When well researched they can be a wonderful alternative to the traditional sterile atmosphere the Dr's office and delivery room.

Midwives pefer the term "catch" they "catch" babies- women deliver or birth them.

You can have a registered or direct entry midwife catch your baby at home or you can have a certified nurse midwife catch your baby at the hospital. I recommend either way.

Yes they do but you are better off without one unless you need to be babied. What is inside must come out so I always wondered why get a midwife all they do is baby you and wipe the sweat from your forehead.

Yes; usually they are a cheaper, and sometimes, less traumatic option to help a woman have a baby at her own place.

definite midwifes provide toddlers :) they look after you and toddler even as you're pregnant, then help supply delivery and infrequently do visits to the moms homestead after the delivery to envision if the mum and toddler are ok! x
