Is this a signal that Republicans are apologizing for the last six years, and have reached the final stage of denial?

I agree with that observation, at least the ones that have any type of power in the Government........street Conservatives have got to realize that they are sheep, and their opinions matter not to the Fascists they elected.

Im afraid Bush's falling ratings might bring about a phenomena known as the scorched earth policy - a military tactic which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area.

The term refers to the practice of burning crops to deny the enemy food sources, although it is by no means limited to food stocks, and can include shelter, transportation, communications and industrial resources, which are often of equal or greater military value in modern warfare, as modern armies generally carry their own food supplies. The practice may be carried out by an army in enemy territory, or by an army in its own home territory.

For example, Cheney said the deployment this month of a second aircraft-carrier task force to the Persian Gulf delivered a "strong signal" of the United States' commitment to confront Iran's growing influence in the region.

Countries in the Middle East "want us to have a major presence there," Cheney said in a Newsweek interview published online yesterday. Referring to the deployment of the carrier USS John C. Stennis, Cheney said, "That sends a very strong signal to everybody in the region that the United States is here to stay, that we clearly have significant capabilities, and that we are working with friends and allies as well as the international organizations to deal with the Iranian threat."

Maybe we're in a race to see what can fall faster: Bush's ratings or the nuke from an aircraft carrier with "Mission Accomplished" written on it.

I haven't caught any polls recently myself, but his ratings are probably dropping because while he does have some interesting things in place (like ethanol), the effects won't be seen for a long time. Plus the border issue is killing him.

BTW the phrase WMD doesn't unnecessarily mean "nukes". Let me pose this question: If Saddam didn't have anything illegal, why didn't he just let the inspectors in and look around?

That's the beautiful thing about this government. If you vote for someone and it turns out that you do not like what they did with the country then you can change your mind right in the middle and vote for someone else next time. Just because you vote Republican or Democrat or whatever doesn't mean you live, breathe and die that way.

Speakeasy is an idiot. If hundreds of wmd's had been found in Iraq the president and cheney would be crowing like peacocks. But I havent heard a thing from them about finding anything. Idiot.

Who cares what his approval rating is. I sure don't, and i don't want a president making decisions based on polls and approval ratings.

Mainstream news and congress isn't exactly rising in the polls. Isn't that a news story to you, or are we just being selective?

I doubt it - this is our liberal media machine talking - not reality and not the American people - the race in 2008 will be closer than you think and if Hillary runs - it won't be so close!
