well actually everybody is right, i don't know if you have seen this documentary that FIFA made a couple of years about the history of football, i think it's call " A century of football" something like that. In it it said that there were very differents types of football being invented in different times and places of the world. For example the Mayans played it in a small court where they had to make a small heavy ball pass through a hoop in the air only using their hips and elbows, the Chinnesse played it like a juggleing game, and in Europe they would have the ball in one country, and two large crows would try to get it to their own country ( it was more like rugby) but still it had the concept of kicking the ball around. The film pretty much said that football didn't really have an inventing ground, it just came out of human nature.

The origins of official football as we know today was invented in England.

Many argue it should be called the english game. It was spread around the world by English Ships. Thats why the very first european football clubs were in seaside ports. The earliest evidence that games resembling football were being played at English public schools , mainly attended by boys from the upper, upper-middle and professional classes.

The rules of the modern game were first written in cambridge and oxford.

In Mesoamerican Cultures such as mayan there was a game quite similar in wich two teams were supposed to get a leather ball into a small ring using their heads, legs, knees and shoulders.
It's been said that this "ball game" used to be played since 3000 BC and that the winner team was actually offered in sacrifice, which was a major price since they would become heroes nearer to the gods than normal humans.
