I have noticed lately that a lot of families where the parents are in their 30's are divorcing lately. It seems like when the going gets rough many aren't working on it and are just divorcing like it is a no big deal solution. Why aren't the marriage vows meaning anything to so many people? Why are there so many people that are being selfish and putting their spouse and children last?

i believe it has alot to do with ones belief system, past experiences, and character that causes they to leave or to stay. people have no threshold for disappointment or problems anymore, and take the easy way out, finding someone else and dumping their spouse. i believe its a sign of the times and that the world is changing but not for the good. think theres a lack of belief in god, and his principals.

Occasionally the cause is money or worn out relationships, but in most instances it is a third person, for men usually younger than the wife and themselves. Youth and few good moves don't last, and the cruel damage to the family left behind haunts the selfish partner to the end of his or her days.

A woman who will break up a marriage makes a poor marriage partner, and she may not be done prowling. And even if she were perfect, nothing can balance the heartless enormity of abandoning one's duties to his first love and his children. Many a person learns these sad truths at the expense of the broken hearts of little people.

It's not just men! Everything is disposable in our society. Why do Americans put their aging parents in nursing homes? Like I said...disposable.

Many many things are to blame but the trend starts at home..children learn values and morals from home first and then society. Today most families need two incomes so moms dont stay with their kids and even some who do..sit and watch tv all day or pursue their own interests and disregard child rearing as something that just happens...they arent pro-active. Years ago when divorce was rare ( or more so), people took an interest in their children and families and realized that........WE AS PARENTS MODEL THE WAY FOR OUR KIDS! Protect your children from harm in all ways. Teach them balance in all things...teach them to cherish family above all else and the trend will change.

I am currently in my second marriage. My first ended in my early 30's. I think you inadvertently answered your own question in the middle of asking it. It is precisely because society treats divorcing like it's a 'no big deal' solution, an attitude only reinforced by the media's relentless pursuit of the ins and outs of high profile relationships in the entertainment industry. It's a sad commentary when people's reaction to many of these wedding announcements is based on a 'how long do you think it (their marriage) will last?' mentality. Let's face it, divorce used to be a shameful occurrence in ones life. No it is viewed as a FACT of life, and an 'inconvenience'. We are, by our very nature and upbringing in today's society, selfish and self-centered. I truly believe that marriage AND divorce should both be harder to achieve. Perhaps then both would be taken more seriously.

Come on now it's not just men doing this. People love as long as it benefits them. This is the foundation of modern day marriages. I understand if your spouse is abusive, drug/alcohol problems like that. People don't take responsibility for their own happiness, they expect someone, something else to make them happy. But you have some who will meet someone else and they become supposedly "in love, or emotionally attached" don't even want to try to fix their marriage. But will make any excuse to get out so they can be with the "other person".

Because men are not holding one another accountable. Plus, how often have you had the offender ( and sometimes, when it applies) the person they left the family for over for dinner or a cookout? Did you say anything to him or her? Again, it is because society accepts it, like teenaged pregnancy.
Also, that group was raised by the selfish hippie generation.

They figure everyone else is doing it so it must be OK. Marriage vows don't seem to be a love-promise anymore. They just seem like a legal contract entitling the other person to half your stuff when you get divorced. .
Very sad.

BRING IT ON MAN BASHERS!!!

Today's society has changed. DUH! right? And we can all see the deterioration ever day. We as a public, display and even sensationalize these infidelities on a daily basis. Even becoming more and more greedy in our lives.

It isn't just the man leaving...sometimes its the woman driving him off.

***And good point about the children! Almost none take them into consideration about their mental development!***

By the way, to all the man haters answering this, maybe you got dumped or cheated on because of YOUR own personality. Men cheat for a reason. If you've left because he cheated and are still angry, you acted too quickly.

ADIEU!

Satan doesn't want marriages and families to flourish, especially since we are so close to the end times. He is trying to get as many people in hell with him as soon as he can before Jesus comes back.

I think that is an overgeneralization. I have been married 20 years. I have two children, 13 and 8. No amount of money, no promise of sex, no illusion of greener grass could make me leave them.
