What is great is that an episodic production could be successfully done on a video site. When she first started, several good things about her video's were immediately obvious:
The storytelling (well she's an actress), her looks and dress, voice and delivery; the storylines were interesting - she said stuff about her life that others could relate to; the environment that she filmed from was nice and of quality.

Even after she was exposed as a fictional character, many didn't care and continued to tune in because the previous elements hasn't changed - the entertainment was still there.

Other types of examples:
Most people know that Pro Wrestling is not really real but has complex storylines written and then performed by great athletes - many still watch for the entertainment value.
There's soap operas and fictional TV shows where actors play characters who speak and do what's in the script; there's a director, a set, retakes and editing going on, then the finished product is shown to the public.

The connections behind lonelygirl15 did a similar production on a video site - which is great for the technology.

I honestly had never heard of her until they made a big deal about it on the news. I watched one of her videos, and she was one of the most annoying things I had ever seen
