I have noticed though a network monitor that my computer is constantly sending and receiving over the internet. The process is java.exe. I have tried closing the java.exe through task manager, but it keeps reappearing. Assuming that another application is using java, i have closed every program in my system tray and all the processes I could shut down in task manager, but no luck. I am a bit worried about some program sending information to some spyware company or somthing. Ad-aware, spybot etc report nothing. Anyone can help?

In a command window enter netstat -b -v, that will list all connections and associated programs. There are a lot of more sophisticated tools you can download if necessary.

If you don't actually use Java, go ahead an uninstall it. You might have to go into Safe Mode to get the java.exe off of your hard-drive. You can download a sniffer like ethereal and see what the exact traffic is, perhaps you can figure out who's messing with your system.

That, and avoid lyrics, porn, or sweepstakes sites, and you should be clean.

Also don't forget to install some kind of anti-spyware..

You can download a firewall like Zonealarm and deny the program access to the internet. That should work fairly well for what you want, and best of all Zonealarm is free. http://www.zonelabs.com Click the Home Section and download the free version. Link is towards the bottom of the page. God Bless and Jesus Saves.

Try downloading Xoftspy - it's better than Spybot/Adaware, etc (but does cost to license it if you want the full version).

Are you sure you've got the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment? If not it might be Java itself trying to update.....

Hope this helps.
