I am getting rid of a water softener. It is filled with salt. How do I get rid of salt? Can I just dump it?

The water softener is very old and hasn't been used in years.

I had a summer job maintaining water softener machines.

You can put the salt in the garbage or trash the whole softener machine with the salt still inside depending on whether the whole machine will come out that way. The salt we used was in large pellets about an inch in diameter so they wouldn't work too well on the snow.

Us if for the snow, put it on the snow. If no snow then put in the trash, it is biodegradable.
