You most likely have either a 305 or 350 under the hood and I'd recommend a dual 2.5 inch setup with a crossover pipe and dual flowmaster 50 series mufflers. They will increase flow, give you a few extra horsepower and they sound really nice

I used glass pack, but then like tires just a matter of opinion and cash. What I did for the 1982 350, was go to a local muffler shop and put dual pipes (dual exhaust) on. That way you got a muffler for one side and another muffler for the other side and that WILL enhance performance. Check prices on these places as they all are different. The larger places I find want more than the little places. I went to one of these little mechanic/muffler shop and got it done cheap.

Trick is to buy your own muffler. I had bought mine from Auto Zone, with the life time warranty in the computer. So you are covered all over the US where there is a Auto Zone. Anyway, where ever you get your mufflers shop around first as to what you want. Sometimes, you may get them cheaper on the internet versus the store. My radiator on the net was cheaper by $80 in the store.

Also when you get the dual exhaust done, with the vehicle still on the rack run the engine and check for leaks with your hand. Sometimes they miss a spot when welding.

Flowmaster, cuz its made for performance where as a glass pack is mostly made for a louder sound. Also no muffler is going to give you more performance, you would need to buy a cat back sysetm, to get any results and thats not going to show much. You should be able to have any local exhaust shop make a cat back for cheaper than a name brand muffler. Or you could just buy a LS1 and get rid of that old engine, but thats alot more money!!
