in America, football is a game thats similar to rugby. So it would be hard to differentiate. Abroad, football is soccer and American football is the football in America. Soccer is short for asSOCiation football.. Americans and someother countries just used this without using football as the country's football code was already in the national sporting culture.

Cuz in America theres a game called football its
different than soccer!
Even in Australia we say soccer,cuz there's a football
sport we have in Australia too!!

Cuz Americans took the name football for their American football and they wanted to give footy a new name so I guess that's why they came up with soccer...

Because we (British) called it football first and becuase America thinks its so much better, they had try and change things and caused this confusion in the process. The Aussies didn't know what to think and since we sent all our prisoners and things over there, they decided to go with America becuase they didn't like what the British done

football is the sport where huge men dress up in pads and helmets and then crush each other over a small, oddly shaped pigskin.
soccer is the game my school (FORT LEWIS COLLEGE)
rules at. Div 2 national champs in 05 and runner up in 06.
