You first job out of college will ask for your GPA. Depending on your type of work, they will usually verify you hold the degree. In additon, inexperienced recruiters will also ask for your GPA. A few years out of school and the real world will not worry about your GPA. You'll be judge by your accomplishments, etc.

I had one employer ask for my transcripts and offered the job to someone else a day after they got them.
Anyway, the answer is, most dont, some do. The ones that do are ignorant, and Id recommend staying away from them any way. Any employer that is going to judge you by some grades you got years ago, which could have been influenced by any number of things, and not by your ability, isnt an employer worth working for.

No, never heard of that. They might verify that you do hold a degree from the university that you say, but seems doubtful that they'd go so far as to check your grades.......as long as you graduated, that's what matters.

not unless they are doing 'on-campus' hiring. then, they may want to know. otherwise, leave it off your resume and application. unless it's great of course.
