Next time you have an itch anywhere on your body. Try very hard not to scratch it, if you start to feel aggitated thats what I felt like when I needed to smoke.

However, I quit and have been smokefree since by the way.

Quitting is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I have been smoking for over 20 years. I am now 39. I try to stop all the time. I can go one or two years without smoking and I think I just have one, and before you know it, I am smoking every day again. I crave cigarettes all the time. I don't think it will ever go away. I have been on the patch, chewed the gum, taken the pills. I still want to smoke. I hate that something has so much control over me. I wish I had known when I was a teenager that I would end up having a love/hate relationship with the tobacco industry. I am a smart, educated, attractive woman. I know the dangers of smoking. The addiction can just be too much sometimes.

It's rough, I smoked for 10 years before I quit. That was 6 years ago. I started when I was 21yo.

When I quit it was so hard because it made me feel anxious all the time I lashed out at alot of people. I was angry and I felt this incredible urge for cigarrettes I got anxiety attacks and decided to replace my urge for cigarrettes with food. I ate and ate till I put on 100lbs. I went from 180lbs to 290lbs in just a few months.

I have smoked a cigarette since then but I felt sick and I have no desire to smoke cigarettes again. I also started smoking cigars about 2 years ago but I am not addicted to them because I dont constantly think of them or feel a desire to have one.

On the other hand my brother has quit several times and has gone back to them several times. My mother quit smoking after smoking 48 years and hasn't had one for almost 2 years.

I think its different for each person.

Quitting smoking makes me feel like someone is raking their fingernails down a chalkboard constantly. It's like PMS on steroids. It is a horrible feeling. It makes me feel mad at everyone and I cannot stop it, even if I know I am in the wrong. I wish I had never started back. I quit for 6 years and then started again and I'm hooked all over again.

I was prety convinced I needed inpatient CD treatment to get off the tobacco... I am a big-time smoker. Here's what works... (I've tried *everything*)... 1. Chantix really works... reduces (not eliminates) cravings. If you do break down and have one, it'll taste like Shite. 2. Stay busy... busy... busy... plan on getting all the things you've "meant to do" done. 3. Do not eat to replace the smokes. I keep my laptop nearby. R&S, games, etc., keep my hands busy. If I need to sit down and relax. (I don't smoke in my house). 4. I've tried the patches, gum, inhalers, wellbutrin, chantix, everything. I like the inhalers the best cause it gives your hands and mouth a substitute. I don't put the nicotine cartridges in, though, they give me a sore throat. 5. Next time I'm tempted, I'm going to roll up a five dollar bill and try to smoke it! (gotta love ramjet!). It doesn't take good luck, don't even try until you feel fairly firmly commited... otherwise, it won't keep. I wish you clean air and good breath!

The only cigarette I had was a puff off of my brothers and got sick I haven't done that since so I don't know what it's like for one to quit but I do know it's hard once you get addicted to them. For some people like my dad he quit cold turkey and hasn't done it since but other's it takes more will power then that. I can only imagine how hard it is to stop but my policy is to never start and you won't have to quit.

i smoked for three years, i quit about 7 months ago, and here's my experience:
i thought i'd never get addicted to it, but after three months of daily smoking i couldn't get stopped, but though i thought i can get over this easily.. after 7 months i knew i'm addicted to this sh*t, till i got skinny, self-centered, unsocial.. but i thought that i can handle this too, but then i even smoked much more, till got sick, my lungs got burned, i was coughing like 80 years old man(i was just 17), believe it or not i was smoking while i'm in bed coughing so hard, thats when i decided to quit to get the medications, so, i managed to quit but i got into coffee for like 4 months, now i'm cool, and i hate smoking, thats how nicotine addicted looks like!!

Try holding your breath for a long period of time. Do this a couple of times in succession. Then after you exhale, you will feel relaxed. Cigarettes and nicotene act in much the same way to create a soothing effect, or the feeling of a head rush.

That is what smoking does. It inhibits oxygen from getting to the blood and subsequently the brain.
