We're reading Pride and Predjudice in my literature class, and today we examined Jane Austen's implied conception of love. She seems to give it a working definition - it's a mix of respect, admiration, esteem, a bit of passion, and attraction.... Does love absolutely require passion? What the heck IS love, anyways. If you're going to answer vaguely and without thought, don't answer at all!

I asked this question once in church and the answer I got was its when you care for someone more then yourself. Passion is only a small factor of love

I agree with Jane. A bit of passion is necessary but passion alone does not equal love. Unfortunately, too many people think they are the same thing.

There is also companionship love, where the comfort and familiarity of the loved one can take the place of passion. But not too many people want a love that starts off there.

The best thing is to look for someone who provide a balance on all levels - physical, emotional and intellectual.

Love is wishing for and seeking what is best for the object of your love. Passion in certainly not required, but I think if you love someone, passion is likely to come.

Not all Love requires passion. Depends what type of love it is. There is Agapy Love - the love from God or Christ for mankind, Brotherly love, the love of a parent to a child, Love for a mate

Love is a feeling you feel, when you feel a feeling that you never felt before.
Love is also said to be a ocean of emotions surrounded by an expansion of expanses.

Love is knowing you can spend the rest of your life with someone and not have any regrets and not thinking you are just settling

God is love, and he showed us how to love when he sent his son to die for our sins. I don't want to sound preachy but He is the only true example of Love that we know. When we looked to human beings to show love, we fall short, not that we don't love but that there are few real examples. But the best answer is looking to God and his word (the Bible). Because his word is him, he shows us in the word how to Love and obey him. Usually when we look to ourselves we usually find a perverted, watered down version of what Love is.
