The Yankees have a problem. They just can't see that spending millions of dollars on players you don't need is completely useless. They truthfully didn't need ARod in the first place. Yankees fans do, in fact, have a reason to blame ARod, but only because he was not worth what they paid. It is true that if Derek Jeter moved to 3rd or 2nd ARod could play SS, but Derek jsut isn't going to do that. They probably could win more games with ARod at SS, but the Yankees are to dimwitted to do that. They just see All - Star talent, reach into their pockets, and give the player a huge load of money. If you want to read a good book on how Billy Beane of the Oakland Athletics created such good teams back when, read Moneyball by Michael Lewis. It tells so much on how he did so much with absolutely nothing (unlike the Yankees).

Well Ballzy, and your name is appropriate considering your question, how is Jeter selfish?
I was wondering the basis on which you have concluded this attitude towards Jeter. Because he won't move from the SS position?
A-Rod signed the contract to come to the Yankees knowing that he would be playing third base.
And to say that the Yankees would win some "meaningful games", I think those were your words, ironic isn't it that the New York Yankees, with Jeter as the SS, have 4 World Series Championships. How many does A-Rod have in the SS position? NIL
So no, I completely disagree with you in surmising that Jeter is selfish.

i actually blame Yankees fans for the way A-rod plays. the last time i checked he was a human being and they go through slumps whether you are an athlete or not. Most of the time last season whenever he came to bat in Yankees stadium he got booed. that can be a bad thing. when nobody really supports you but expects too much from you. sorry but A-rod is not the best SS in history and its not worth disrupting team chemistry just cos some guy has been playing this position. you cant move jeter from short plus A-rod plays third really well, as i said just went thru a very bad slump last year. if Yankees fans can open their eyes and see that the guy at the plate is a human being like them and encourage instead of acting asinine then maybe he'll be better this season. it doesn't matter if he plays short or third, it depends more on how the "home" fans treat him.

Its kind of true, Jeter has a better arm and would be better suited for 3rd base. A-rod was a better shortstop when he moved to 3rd base (he was winning the gold gloves for ss at the time, there's no denying that A-rod was better). However, I'm not sure how much of A-rod moving to 3rd was Jeter's fault. I think the Yankees wanted to keep him there as symbolically, the shortstop is the leader of the team and the Yankee organization was too careful about not hurting Jeter's feelings (I don't think he would have minded that much).

Well lets see, Jeter is not only the face of the Yankees but is also the face of the baseball so why should he have to change positions. Jeter has made himself a clutch hitter and fielder. Would have A-rod been able to make the flip play, probably not because that was all instinct. Jeter flew into the stands in a game during the regular season, not many players would sacrifice their bodies like that. A-rod was a good short stop theres not doubt he has the gold gloves to prove it but he's the one who volunteered to move to third because he knew it was Jeter's team. I don't see how Jeter is selfish. Do you ever watch any of his interviews? He does nothing but give credit to his teammates. Did you ever see him advertise himself one time for the MVP? No, because he'd rather win championships then individual awards
devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one's own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others. Thats the definition of selfish, and i have never seen Derek Jeter act in any ways of that definition.
Next time you start criticizing players maybe you should get a vocab lesson of what you are acually saying. Comments like this just make it look like you no nothing about baseball but the obvious.

we dont necessarly blame A-Rod, we just expect to much from him...when he came to the yankees we expected him to be a better player then he was in Texas and all he's been is a dissapointment...and it seems he cares more about his self image then he does about the team...i personally wish him the best..i just think he folds under pressure and he thinks he is expected to hit the big homerun every time and he's not, we expect him to do the job in the playoffs and he has'nt, he's played horrible in the playoffs...yankee fans (like me) just expect players to get the job done, let it be a ground ball up the middle or a sacrifise bunt to drive in the run, we dont need a big homerun.. thats why i think we dont blame Jeter, because he gets the job done...A-Rod is a way better player then he's shown over the last 3 years he's been in New York and we have yet to see his full potential..and about Jeter playing 3B...it will never happen, when A-rod signed to the Yanks he agreed to move positions and i dont think Jeter, the captain and leader of the yankees, should have to move for him, plus A-rod was a quarterback in High school and has a stronger arm...Unless Jeter's hurt or out for the game A-rod will not take his position in the near future.

No one blames Alex for the Yankee performance over the past couple of years. What they do is criticize his Post season performance. Derek Jeter is not selfish and don't forget he has won the gold glove at SS two years in a row and this year was a stud at the plate. He was the incumbent in the position. The switch was all Alex. He wanted to be a Yankee and he volunteered to play third base to defer to Jeter. It's not that Alex is all that bad at Third Base. He's actually a good third baseman that had some problems last year. Its his post season disappearance that people complain about.

Not to take anything away from the way A-Rod played ss, but Jeter's better.
If you ever saw highlight reels of these 2 ss, you would see that Jeter plays a jaw-dropping ss.
I understand how you, slow-witted, Red Sox fans can easily get caught up in the hype of the main-stream media. But people that KNOW baseball, know Jeter is the man for that job.

They blame Arod because he has failed to come through for them in big spots, while Jeter has succeeded. Defense, A-Rods was bad last year and Jeter's defense good, has had little to do with the Yankees losing meaningful games. They have lost meaningful games because their big bats, most notably A-Rod have failed to come through when it matters the most.
