I understand some people have the view that he saved Chile from communism, but at what cost? Torture and murder, topped off by thievery of the banks of Argentina are a bad solution.

When heavy political feelings and views come into the picture, many people are blinded by their passion. Deep down, they know it is true, but they have pushed believing that such a "hero" of their nation could not do something so horrible so deeply into them, that the truth only remains with them at subconcious level.
