The ribbon connector cable that connects your laptops keyboard to it's motherboard may have come loose or the keyboard controller might be dead/dying.

Consult a PC technician to repair or replace the keyboard. In future please provide more information, such as the brand of laptop and whether any other keys on the keyboard work.

Alternatively, buy a USB keyboard, that should work with no problems.

sounds like you have num lock on. try pressing the NumLk key on your keyboard. its probably one of the fn keys
