You have to figure out what added together adds up to 5 whereas those same numbers multiplied together equals 6. Two and three...added equal 5 and multiplied equal 6 so (x+3)(x+2) would be the factor of x^2+5x+6.

To test it you can use the FOIL method (First Outside Inside Last)
First X x X = X^2
Outside X x 2 = 2x
Inside 3 x X = 3x
Last 3 x 2 = 6

X^2 + 2x + 3x + 6

X^2 + 5x + 6

x² + 5x + 6 = 0

x² + 3x + 2x + 6

x(x + 3) + 2(x + 3)

(x + 2)(x + 3)
