They ususally come with a white pair and a second color pair. Its for looks only. I would think they started doing that earlier because shoe laces always seem to break before..but now..the quality is so much better..the laces will probably out last the shoes themselves

I have never had that problem but maybe it is b/c the company wants you to buy another pair of laces. I myself LOVE flip flops!
